Theodore Upholstered Dining Chair in Sage

Sage, the color that calmed the dining room

Green is having a long moment in interiors, and the Theodore shows why the quieter end of the spectrum wins. Its Sage upholstery – a muted, grey-green with the saturation turned low – brings color into the dining room without raising its voice. The effect is closer to a neutral with opinions: it layers with oak, walnut, white, and stone the way beige does, but with infinitely more character. Underneath, solid wood legs keep the chair grounded, and the plush seat with its gently contoured back makes sure the pretty choice is also the comfortable one.

A color that behaves like a neutral

The worry with a colored dining chair is commitment – will you still like it in three years, and will it survive the next table? Sage answers both. Because it sits so close to grey on the spectrum, it functions as a neutral in practice: it flatters warm wood tones, cools down white tables, and never fights the wall color. The Theodore’s tailored seat adds a furniture-grade finish that elevates the whole chair beyond standard dining seating. If you have been circling green but flinching at emerald, this is your entry point – and our dining chairs collection holds the bolder options for when you are ready.

Collected, not decorated

There is a particular look – collected, layered, quietly confident – that the Theodore was made for. It suits rooms where the table is vintage or the art is eclectic, because the Sage fabric has enough personality to belong in a mixed room without demanding to lead it. The contoured back keeps long dinners easy, and the 20-inch width is the standard fit that lines up neatly in sets of four, six, or eight. Try a full set for commitment, or start with two Theodores as host chairs at the ends of a neutral table – the tailored seats will look deliberate either way. Complete the scheme with tables from our dining tables collection.

Frequently asked questions

Will Sage go out of style?
Muted greens sit close to grey on the spectrum, which is why they behave like neutrals – they outlast trend cycles far better than saturated colors.

Can I mix the Theodore with other chairs?
Easily – two Theodores as end chairs with neutral side chairs is a classic designer move.

What tables pair well with Sage?
Oak, walnut, white, and stone tops all flatter the muted green; it is one of the most forgiving chair colors to build around.
