Rothler Black Woven Cord Armless Dining Chair

Black paper cord, woven twice

Paper cord usually shows up in natural tones; the Rothler weaves it black – double-twisted, in alternating patterns, over a black brushed solid ash frame. The result is monochrome texture: a back you read as much by shadow as by color, with depth that flat black upholstery can’t touch. Against the thick cushioned seat in Essence Natural (49% viscose, 22% flax/linen, 18% polyester, 11% cotton), the black-and-natural contrast is graphic without being loud.

Texture you feel before you see

The double twist is the difference: two strands wound together before weaving, which gives the cord more body and a more pronounced hand than single-twist weaves. Run your fingers across the back and you feel the craft. The open weave keeps the chair feeling light despite solid ash construction, and the armless 20.5-inch profile tucks neatly under the table. Black-and-natural is the versatile pairing – it suits dark tables and light ones equally, which is rarer than it sounds.

Frequently asked questions

What is double-twisted paper cord?
Two strands of paper yarn twisted together before weaving – stronger and more textural than single-twist cord, with a pronounced hand you can feel.

Is the black cord hard to keep clean?
No – vacuum with a brush attachment. The dark color hides dust, and the tight double twist resists snagging.

How does it differ from the Haddon?
The Haddon weaves natural-tone cord over a black frame; the Rothler goes black-on-black with a double twist and a cushioned natural seat. Same craft family, different mood.

Will the natural seat stain?
The viscose-linen blend is soft rather than performance-treated – treat spills promptly and consider fabric protector for heavy daily use.
