Matthes 96-Inch Rustic Grey Oak Dining Table

Three inches of presence

The first thing you notice about the Matthes isn’t the length – it’s the thickness. A 3.07-inch top gives this 96-inch table the gravity of a slab without the slab’s weight penalty, and the rustic grey oak veneer reads like found wood: weathered, warm, honest. At 178 lb it’s substantial without being immovable, and mortise-and-tenon joinery keeps the long span rigid. This is a table built for the long dinner.

Rustic grey, not farmhouse costume

“Rustic” gets abused in furniture marketing, usually meaning distressing applied with a belt sander. The Matthes earns it differently: a grey-washed oak tone that mutes the wood’s red undertones and lets the grain do the talking. No fake wormholes, no theatrical wear – just oak with a weathered cast that suits modern farmhouse, transitional, and soft industrial rooms equally. The thick veneer gives you the look of solid timber with better stability across 96 inches.

Frequently asked questions

Is it solid oak or veneer?
Thick oak veneer over an engineered core – the right call at 96 inches, where solid oak would move with the seasons. You get the look and feel of timber with better stability.

What does rustic grey look like in person?
A soft grey wash over oak grain – warm, not cold; weathered, not distressed. It reads neutral in most light.

Will 96 inches fit my room?
Allow 36 inches of clearance on each side for chairs – that means a room at least 13 feet long. Measure twice.

Is the thick top just for looks?
Mostly – and honestly, that’s the point. Presence is the product here, and 3 inches of it changes how a room feels.
