Hawkins Black Leather Dining Chair

A dining chair with accent-chair ambitions

The Hawkins doesn’t sit at the table so much as hold court over it. A sculpted, armed silhouette wrapped in Sonoma Black top-grain leather – exclusive to Four Hands, so you won’t find this chair anywhere else – gives it the presence of an accent piece that happens to dine. Pull it up to a desk, park it in a reading corner, float it in a living room: it earns its place in any of those rooms as easily as at the table.

Why it costs what it costs

Top-grain leather on a dining chair is rare at any price – most leather seating at this scale is reserved for the living room. The Hawkins wraps the full sculpted frame, and the leather will wear in rather than out, developing character instead of showing age. Underneath: a hardwood frame with corner-block, mortise-and-tenon, and nailed joinery – three joint reinforcements where most chairs use one – plus webbing suspension and a 275 lb capacity. The 23.5-inch width is generous without hogging the table. You’re not buying a chair; you’re buying the room’s second-best seat.

Best for

Best for dining rooms that want drama – use two as host chairs flanking a simpler set, or commit to six and let the table play supporting actor. The black leather takes brass, marble, and dark wood beautifully. More statement seating among the dining chairs; tables to pair them with in dining tables.

Frequently asked questions

Is it real leather?
Yes – top-grain leather throughout, in Sonoma Black. It wears in with use, developing a richer character rather than cracking or peeling.

Can I really use it as an accent chair?
Absolutely – the sculpted silhouette was designed for it. It works in a living room, study, or bedroom corner as well as at the table.

How many do I need?
Sold individually. Two as host chairs is the classic move; a full set of six or eight makes the statement complete.

Will black leather show scratches?
Top-grain leather develops a patina – minor marks blend into the character of the hide rather than reading as damage. That’s the material working as intended.
